The Avian Sun™ 5.0 UVB Compact Fluorescent Bulb provides birds with safe levels of beneficial UVB and UVA for physical and psychological health. UVB enables birds to synthesize vitamin D3 for proper calcium metabolism which is necessary for normal growth, maintenance of strong bones, and egg production. UVA is visible to birds, enabling them to recognize mates, locate food, and identify different species. Without UVA, birds are essentially colorblind!  Curbs unwanted destructive behaviors.

**Zoo Med Floor Stand (Fixture) sold separately or screw into less expensive common clap light fixture from Amazon or Homedepot.** (Hang from above)

Recommend for areas of the home with less widows, darker rooms and basements.

Burn-In Period:

Compact fluorescent bulbs have a "burn-in" period when the light and UVB output is at its greatest. For your AvianSun 5.0 Compact Fluorescent Bulb, this period lasts about two weeks when the bulb is used to provide a normal photoperiod or day/night cycle at 10 to 12 hours per day (150 hours of use).

When to Replace Your Bulb:

Your bulb will provide beneficial UVA and UVB for a period of 12 months. After 12 months, the bulb should be replaced with a new AvianSun 5.0 Compact Fluorescent Bulb. Before you turn on your bulb for the first time, date the base of the bulb to remind yourself when to replace it.
