When compared to striped sunflower seeds, black oil seeds are meatier and have a higher oil content, giving birds more nutrition and calories in every bite. Black oil seeds also have thinner shells, making them easier for smaller birds to crack.
Black oil seeds have a higher fat content than striped sunflower seeds. Black Oil sunflower seeds also have a bitter taste which is not preferred by larger parrots.
Not recommended as a complete diet, best for adding to custom seed mixes or daily CHOP.
Recommended for medium size and smaller birds: Conures, Eclectus, Ringnecks, Cockatiels.
